Contemporary Expressions of Africa and the World
I first discovered Revue Noire at an art fair in New York City and became intrigued by the quality of the gallery and the work they represent. The website is a great tool to explore, and I hope we all get to explore their gallery space. Filled with gems such as rare editions of artwork and publications on specialized subject matter, Revue Noire is a site you must keep watch on!
One of my favorite works on their website is the photography of Jean Depara who was a photographer from the Democratic Republic of Congo. As per the Revue Noire website, “Photographer in Kinshasa (DR Congo) between 1951-1975, Jean Depara shares with us his night life in the streets and dancing-bars and his day in athletic clubs and at the swimming pool La Funa.” (All prices are available upon request from Revue Noire for these limited edition prints).
