The work of Mark Bradford has had a personal and professional impact on my life as an art lover and arts administrator. His work has been a pivotal reminder of the importance of art as a tool for social justice and societal reflection. I have often looked to his artwork for inspiration and reflection. Visiting Receive Calls on Your Cell Phone From Jail (2003) was a breathtaking experience, and I have tried to include photos with a variety of details so that you may view the skill, process and genius in his work. The work is a grid of thirty-eight paintings comprising posters that convey the challenges surrounding receiving collect calls from prison on one’s cell phone.
