Iran do Espírito Santo: Playground at entrance to Central Park in the Doris C. Freedman Plaza. September 10, 2013 – February 16, 2014. Taken by Erin Hylton 2013.
From September 10, 2013 – February 16, 2014 Iran do Espírito Santo: Playground will be located in Doris C. Freedman Plaza at the entrance to Central Park. The cube looks like individual blocks with pieces missing but the large gray structure is a 13 foot-sqaure of cast concrete (one piece) designed with the hollow spaces where visitors can climb, sit, go inside and explore. Famous in his native Brazil, Playground is the largest in his ongoing series entitled Destroços (“remains”), in which architectural fragments are rendered as discreet sculptures. Check out more about the piece on the Public Art Fund.
